1. Store your camera in a dry, cool and clean location. Don’t leave your camera in a hot or cold vehicle. Neither extremes are good for a camera‘s care.
2. Keep the lens cap on when you are not taking photographs.
3. Don’t try to repair your camera, take it to an expert.
4. Keep your fingers of the lens. Skin acids harm the lens surface.
5. Keep the lens clean. For good camera care remove dust particles before each time you take your camera out to shoot more photos. A good investment in camera care is a syringe brush. You use it to first blow on the lens then use the soft brush to gently brush away any dust the air did not remove. You can also breathe on the lens to fog it, and gently rub the surface clean with soft photographic lens tissue. Do not use eyeglass tissues. They contain silicone and can harm the lens coating. The key word is gentle. Without proper camera care lenses and filters can scratch easily.
6. Some photographers use skylight filters on all their lenses. It is used to cut down on ultra-violet light in some conditions, but is mainly used to protect the lens. It doesn’t affect to color of your photos and you never have to clean the lens only the filter. It is a lot less expensive to replace a scratched filter than an expensive lens.
Your camera and equipment will last a long time if cared for properly. A good camera bag is definitely a camera care necessity to keep all your equipment and accessories in top condition so you can shoot more photos. It is always good to get in the habit of practicing proper camera care.
