The Cathedral ( Saint Basil's Cathedral ) of the Intercession of the Virgin by the Moat as it is also known, is a famous structure that was designed and built to mark the capture of Astrakhan and Kazan from the Mongols. Its construction was ordered by Ivan the Terrible on 1555 and was accomplished in only six years. This structure is located exactly at the center of Moscow, and its builders Postnik Yakovlev and Barma are known to have built nothing else similar in all Russian empire. Its construction also coincided with the rise of the region to a world power with regional prominence.

This architectural Moscow Cathedral feat not only quickly gained notoriety in all the empire but was also lifted to being the centerpiece and main square where the powerful met. The very Ivan whom was also the first Czar of Russia was there occasionally as well as the empire’s powerful elite. This Asian influence is felt most notoriously in the arches. As for the wooden frames, these are considered to have ascended from various wooden vernacular churches that were found in the north.

BASIL'S CATHEDRAL )  has lost its religious purpose and is mostly held as a symbolic representation of the Russian power. It is a museum and receives many visits from around the world. The main advantages of such structure are that it is made of very resistant materials which have enabled it to remain standing for over centuries now. It is also something unique which allows it to be very different from various structures around the world, retaining its position as one of the most original and mind boggling structures to date.

It’s now our time to stare and wonder about it, and who knows for how long more it will stand to tell a history to humanity. A history of not only a building, but the history of a people.
