Switching from the New Range to the BMW 5 Series in 1972, it was a new design era for BMW, and the 5-series became synonymous with sheer driving pleasure. Each of the models emit less carbon dioxide and of course they are ever more fuel-efficient. In fact the 184hp 2.0-litre diesel emits only 119g/km of carbon dioxide. Each of the diesel 5-series model is fitted with a NOx storage catalyst with urea injection which means that when EU6 emission regulations come into effect in September 2014, the entire 5-series diesel range will comply.
The name 5-series comes from the car being the fifth of the new series cars and was the replacement for the older four-door New Class sedans and the 5th of BMWs new series of cars, following the Isetta era of the 1960s. Its advanced wind-cheating bodywork always looks good, and comfort comes with the sedan with its racing car levels of road holding. Christopher Edward Bangle is an American automobile designer who became Chief of Design for BMW in 1992 and his designs are incorporated in the entire BMW lineup, including the 5 series. The first generation of the 5 Series featured a body design by Italian car designer, Marcello Gandini.
BMW has gone on to introduce more generations of the 5 Series. Throughout the history of the 5 series, the car has been a rear-wheel drive, but more recently it has made all-wheel-drive versions of the car available. Changes to BMW 5 series design as well as innovative additions like BMW ConnectedDrive technology have all simply increased the appeal of the BMW 5 Series model. ConnectedDrive simply offers more driver quality from service-orientated equipment, allowing the driver maximum safety on the roads by the provision of important information from a full color display.
New in the BMW 5 Series design are the BMW Luxury Line- and Modern Line packages which have exclusive design and equipment features. You can actually now adapt your BMW 5 Series sedan to be tailored to your wishes because BMW offers you a a range of personalized and individualized options.
This is because of its all-wheel drive, it has plenty of room as well as a number of driver assistance systems along with petrol and diesel engines. Introduced in 1991, their 5-series Touring allows you to enjoy high performance as well as sleekness. The engines too, have all been put through BMW’s EfficientDynamics analysis and they are more economical than their predecessors as well as having more room inside. Standard in this particular BMW 5 series design is the leather upholstery as well as the automatic air conditioning.
The 5 Series Touring can be customized, you can even opt for a device that will park the car for you automatically into tight spots. With the BMW 5 series Sedan design, the BMW engineers come up with an aerodynamically efficient body which can’t help but make other sports cars look inferior. A close look at the way the BMW 5 series has evolved compared to the first generation 5-series is hardly surprising. Today, the BMW 5 Series design is all about extraordinary technology, performance and safety innovation.
It is the very reason why the 5-series is regarded as a sporting success, quickly earning a reputation for beauty and reliability.
